Technical Competitions
Digital Cinema Production (Technical)
Goal of the contest is to evaluate each contestant’s preparation for employment and to recognize outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the cinematography/short film production. The contest will be divided into four portions:
- a written exam that will assess knowledge in industry standards, given in class Jan. 21, 2019.
- a storyboard assignment to be completed in teams of two people, due in class Jan. 21, 2019.
- an interview with 1 or more judges and, will be conducted in class some time during the week of Jan. 21. To be determined.
- a short film (3 minutes or less) that will be filmed before the contest on Jan. 21th, 2019.
- Share finished film from Google Drive by 11:59, Jan. 20, 2019

Audio/Radio Production (Technical)
Students will produce (plan, write, voice, record, edit, render, etc.) a 5-minute radio production such as a PSA, NPR style soundscape, sound rich/NPR style news story, sound & interview only news story, etc. A 30-Second Ad Spot will be produced and inserted into the production. The complete production requires students to demonstrate their ability to plan a project that meets a specific prompt & run time; gather, edit and mix a variety of audio sources; and finally, render the completed project to a specified audio file.

Interactive Application and Game Development (Technical)
Teams of 2 must produce an original, high-quality prototype or sample of an interactive multimedia application or video game during the school year immediately preceding the contest deadline. Their production should include concept art and/or storyboards, the sample or prototype itself, an executive overview of the project, and a printed résumé for each team member. Résumés should include the industry experience gained from developing the contest submission, time invested, and the professional and academic relevance to the contestant’s career ambitions.

Welding Regional Competition at SPSCC (Technical)
The scope of the contest is defined by industry standards as identified by the following companies: American Welding Society Inc., Harris Products Group, Hobart Brothers Co., Lincoln Electric Co., Linweld Inc. and Miller Electric Manufacturing Co. All drawings, welding symbols and welding terms conform to the latest edition of the American Welding Society (AWS) standards.

Cabinet Making Regional Competition at Port Angeles HS (Technical)
The contest consists of workstations that require the building of a small cabinet from the materials and drawings supplied. Contestants will demonstrate their ability to perform jobs or skills selected from the following list of competencies as determined by the SkillsUSA Championships technical committee.

Aerospace (Manufacturing) Assembler Regional Contest (Technical)
- When: Saturday January 19th 8am – 4pm (or earlier)
- Where: Capital High School, 2707 Conger Ave, Olympia WA
- What: The contest will be a newly modified CorePLUS project #3 (with squeezed AN426AD-3-4 rivets fastening the nutplates instead of blind rivets…. we will provide the squeezers)
- What to bring: Usual CorePLUS tools including safety wire twisters if desired, but no pop rivet tools needed.
- Lunch will be provided (Pizza)
- Limit of 16 contestants so please RSVP by January 9th.

Divided into three phases: completion of employment applications; preliminary interviews with receptionist; and, in-depth interviews. Contestants are evaluated on their understanding of employment procedures faced in applying for positions in the occupational areas for which they are training.

- You must have earned a gold medal at the state conference to be automatically eligible for the national conference! 2nd place may be eligible if 1st place chooses not to attend.
- ~$1300/person, includes flights, hotel, and registration. Newly elected state officers must attend the pre-conference training seminar. Does NOT include meals and incidentals ~$400 (more information following state). You are responsible for meals and incidentals.
