Description: Take three portrait pictures of a person in the available light within 60 seconds.  Have camera settings ready before subject is called into the scene.

Requirements

• Use SLR camera
• Use 50mm lens
• Camera in manual mode
• Aperture wide open, Example: f 1.8 on 50 mm lens
  • Minimum depth of field
• Adjust shutter until light meter on “zero”, Example: between +1 and -1
• Be within 2 feet of the subject
• Have background be at least 10 feet behind subject
• Light the subject’s face with available light
  • Assess where light is coming from
  • Position the subject’s head at angle that is flattering
  • Position subject in position of power or dominance, reflection or submission, and casual or relaxed
• Use reflector to fill in shadows (with help from someone else)
• Get subject to smile
